Carpet Tile Samples: What to Request and Compare

View several tiles together under the project's lighting and beside neighbouring finishes. A small swatch is useful for an initial look, but a group of complete tiles shows direction, repeat and joints far more clearly.
Ask for the right sample set
A sample request works best when the supplier knows the exact candidate and the designer knows what the sample is meant to answer. Bring the room plan, nearby finishes and a short list of codes. Ask separately for the current product sheet or test document when a measurable requirement matters; visual handling cannot replace a laboratory result.
Compare samples in the actual space
Identity on every tile. Keep series, code, colour, size and backing with each sample. If the sample label is incomplete, ask the supplier to identify it before review.
Enough tiles to see the pattern. Place several full tiles together. Rotate only if the product allows it, and look from the room's main approach and under daytime and artificial light.
Adjacent finishes. Put the carpet beside furniture, wall finish and hard flooring. Record which combination was reviewed so the colour decision is traceable.
Practical handling. Check the actual edge and surface for visible damage, and discuss cleaning and replacement access for the proposed zone.
Technical questions. List required fire, emission, acoustic or use information separately. Request a current document for the exact product and test scope rather than guessing from touch or appearance.
